Sunday Morning Viewing Pleasure – All Gallica All Day!

On June 23, 2020 by webminister

For your Sunday viewing pleasure! All Gallica all day, I hope to visit this museum within the next 5 years : -) So many beautiful manuscripts!

The Breviary of Salisbury made for the Duke of Bedford

Knowing how popular French Quilts are I know this manuscript will be appreciated by many!

ManuscritHorae ad usum Aurelianensem

Another French Quilt! You will notice on the other pages that the gold is a paler shade and all the colors are more delicate, truly a beautiful manuscript.

Evangelist

Being a lover of texture and especially pattern, I hit the brakes when I cruised through this manuscript, I hope you enjoy it too.

Horae [Book of hours by Etienne Alleaume, lord of Verneuil-sur-Seine, in Latin and in French.

14th Century battle scenes, we are always looking for these as scribes to add little miniatures into our scrolls for the fighter community so I though this would be appreciated.

“Chronicles sire JEHAN FROISSART”. French 2643 Froissart, Jean (1337? -1410?

This manuscript is terrific for the baby scribe all the way to the Laurel level. I have made a few scrolls from this book and have always been satisfied. It has a similar feel to the Spitz book so if you like that one, you will like this one too.

Horae ad usum romanum

A few super elaborate full page miniatures in this manuscript and check out the medieval male super model in the gold armor, ~he’s got legs! and knows how to use them, lol!

Gorgeous caligraphy!

Directive adviser for the passage from other sea, French translation by Jean Miélot … Miélot, Jean (14 ..- 1472

Enjoy!
