Sunday Viewing Pleasure – French QuiltOn June 23, 2020 by webminister
Beautiful, delicate, organic design with just enough gold to accent France 1400s. Simple pages to complex pages in this book.
This Flemish book is a real beauty from the workshop of Simon Bening and when the book was digitized , specific details from each page were digitized individually, making for extreme quality.Love love love the turqoiuse-y blue color
The name of this book is Apocolypse so there are several interesting, graphic pages depicting what would happen to you should your destination NOT be heaven.
Austrian 13th Century, a beautifully depicted Madonna with a solid gold background makes one wonder if this artist was influenced by Icon painters, it has that ~feel to it. Unusual book so worth posting!
Anglo Saxon- I just can’t get enough of this style, it is so lovely! And pages of ALL GOLD CALIGRAPHY and I LOVE gold!
Once in a while I will post a link to a short video that I enjoy, hope you do to. This one is about the De Croix Hours.
I post Books of Hours for all of you to review for a reason, it is an artistic date for every scribe that chooses to follow my links- which always take you to a museum or a library. Many of us do not have the time or resources to travel everywhere we’d like to go (even without the COVID 19 crisis) but we can go on mini artistic dates to a museum or library of our choosing to see something that interest us from our computers. Further, the more often you visit such places, the more comfortable you will become navigating the different museum and library online features. I hope that after looking at one book, you may come back and revisit these sites to see other items. Research and study just makes us stronger and better scribes, it broadens the world for all of us! I may never paint something from the Book of Kells or the Lindesfarne Gospels but it does not prevent me from appreciating the great beauty made by human hands so many centuries ago.
